Junk responds to the question “In the 21^st century world do we over supervise our children? Are we creating a generation denied the opportunity to take risks, find their boundaries and exercise their imagination?”

This vibrant take on childhood tumbles headfirst into a world of play and imagination through circus skills, acrobatics and beautiful shadow puppetry.

The professionally trained young artists of Flying Fruit Fly Circus undertook research with local elders, collecting their stories about childhood play in regional Australia during the 1940’s. These became the inspiration to create this story of a modern-day boy who finds himself in an abandoned junkyard inhabited by the spirits of children from the 1940’s whose  boundless enthusiasm urges him to play without inhibition. Free from adult supervision they teach him to trust, invent and take risks.

The Flying Fruit Fly Circus is Australia’s national youth circus, famous for creating work that is visually rich, physically inspiring and emotionally engaging. Appealing to a cross generational audience, for 35 years it has helped ordinary kids to do extraordinary things, creating a new generation of young performers.

CIRCUS WORKSHOPS with  DUST PALACE: Friday 9 March 
Established by Eve Gordon and Mike Edward in 2009, The Dust Palace is New Zealand's pre-eminent circus theatre company. 

Prior to and after the schools matinee of JUNK,  in the Bruce Mason Centre,  Dust Palace performers are offering workshops for students on  juggling, hula hoops and acrobalance.
Numbers are limited to 20 students in each group.  
No experience needed - just enthusiasm, appropriate clothing and water! 

TIMES: 
Session 1: 10.30-11.15 am

• Age 6-8 ( lower primary)
• age 8-10 – (upper primary
• Age 10-12 (Intermediate)

Session 2: – 12.30 – 1.15 pm

• Age 6-8 ( lower primary)
• age 8-10 –( upper primary
• Age 10-12 (Intermediate)

 Workshops are $10 per student.
