The Committee requested that the Auckland Regional Amenities Funding Board continues to provide funding to the Auckland Festival Trust in order to deliver a Festival every year.

In the report, the Festival’s efforts to create activities that take place across the region and also the Festival’s commitment to providing activities for Māori and Pacific communities were noted.

Auckland Festival Trust Chair John Judge says, “We are absolutely delighted to have received the support of the Council to deliver an annual Festival to Aucklanders and visitors to the city. The Festival is a taonga for the region and something we know is hotly anticipated each year.

“The knowledge that we can continue to create Auckland’s biggest festival every year into the future is immensely rewarding, and is great news for artists and performers, Festival staff and audiences. We applaud the Council for their absolute support of the festival and subsequently the arts in Aotearoa.”

The 2018 Auckland Arts Festival takes place in March next year.

Already announced are the English National Ballet’s spectacular production of Akram Khan’s Giselle, coming exclusive to Auckland Arts Festival, and a smash-hit international stage adaptation of George Orwell’s 1984, presented in association with Auckland Theatre Company.

The full 2018 programme will be announced on Tuesday 31 October.
